In conjunction with Alec Soth’s first major U.S. survey exhibition, currently on view at the Walker Art Center through January 2, the artist will sign copies of his exhibition catalogue From Here to There: Alec Soth’s America as well as his other publications from 6-8 pm Thursday, November 11, in the Walker Shop. The Walker-designed, fully illustrated, 224-page catalogue features essays by exhibition curator Siri Engberg, Britt Salveson, Geoff Dyer, and Barry Schwabsky; a poem by August Kleinzahler; and an interview with the artist by Bartholomew Ryan, Walker assistant curator of visual arts. Also included in the publication is a 48-page artist’s book by Alec Soth titled The Loneliest Man in Missouri, a photographic essay with diaristic texts capturing the banality of middle America’s suburban corporate office parks, strip clubs, and chain restaurants. Hardcover: $60 ($54 Walker members).
The Walker Art Center is a catalyst for the creative expression of artists and the active engagement of audiences. Focusing on the visual, performing, and media arts of our time, the Walker takes a global, multidisciplinary, and diverse approach to the creation, presentation, interpretation, collection, and preservation of art. Walker programs examine the questions that shape and inspire us as individuals, cultures, and communities.
